Truth in Unlikely Places

Over the last 8 years in my life I have tried to look for truth in unlikely places. Growing up I was told that the only place I could find truth was at church from 8:30-11am. I grew up believing this and rejected so much that God was trying to use to teach me about life. 8 years ago a few people I started listening to taught me to look for truth everywhere because the whole Earth belongs to God and God can speak through unusual people and circumstances. If you really think about this in your life you will find it to be true. Think about the conversations we have with children, or signs we see along the road, or shows we watch.

Tonight for me was one of those moments. Tonight was the 51st Grammy Awards show and U2 started the night with their song Get Your Boots On from their upcoming album. The song is about peace and love and community and how more bombs and nations at war is only a ghost that cannot truly scare us away from finding true community with each other.

Coldplay came out a few minutes later...all I can say is 2 words about them  Phe nominal!!!

Kid Rock (yes you saw that right, truth from Kid Rock)  performed a deeply spiritual song about all of the problems we have with each other and all the religious hypocrisy we have in this country and to show how messed up we are and how we really need a Savior to fix things. Jesus says in Matthew 19 that when the Son of Man comes you will see the renewal of all things.

Probably the performance of the night was Jennifer Hudson though. Earlier last year she lost her mother, brother and nephew in a terrible murder. She performed tonight a song about how Jesus got her through and held her up through it all. Jeana and I were sitting here speechless, Jeana was crying and my eyes were getting a little dusty (that is man speak for crying) . She got a standing ovation and she cried a little. If people missed the fact that she was praising God for getting her through a terrible tragedy in her life - then they missed something huge.

Please look for truth everywhere because God's presence is everywhere and the whole earth is full of his glory.

Matt
